HOW TO GET RID OF TOOTHACHE AT NIGHT?

At night, it can be difficult to treat toothache, as it can be difficult to get a care appointment or have something that distracts from the pain. If you get nocturnal toothache, however, there are some solutions to get relief and thus be able to sleep properly. Below are some tips on how to ease toothache.

Eight ways to treat nocturnal toothache

1. Painkillers

Taking regular painkillers is a simple and easy way to relieve relatively mild toothache. Never take more than what is recommended on the package.

2. Cold compress

Use a cold compress to relieve the pain when you have a toothache. Place a bag of ice wrapped in a towel against the side of the mouth that is affected to constrict the blood vessels, which can then reduce the pain enough to be able to fall asleep. A cold compress can be put on the area that hurts for 15-20 minutes every hour to relieve the pain before going to sleep.

3. Exaltation

When blood accumulates in the head, it can cause further pain and inflammation. For some people, it may work to raise their head with one or two extra pillows to relieve the pain enough to fall asleep.

4. Rinse with salt water

Rinsing your mouth with regular saline is a common home remedy to help with toothache. Salt water is naturally antibacterial and can therefore reduce inflammation, which can also protect the teeth from infection. When rinsing the mouth with salt water, food residues and other things that are stuck between the teeth can also disappear.

5. Rinse mouth with hydrogen peroxide

If you have a severe gingivitis that often follows poor oral hygiene, it often leads to pain, bleeding gums or loose teeth. A study showed that rinsing the mouth with hydrogen peroxide-containing mouthwash reduces plaque and the above problems. Hydrogen peroxide can be bought at the pharmacy.

Children should not take hydrogen peroxide in their mouths, as they may swallow the mixture.

6. Tea with peppermint flavor

Rinse your mouth with tea flavored with peppermint or soak in a tea bag containing peppermint to temporarily relieve the pain from your teeth. Peppermint should be antibacterial and contain antioxidants, which can therefore help with infections of various kinds. Menthol, which is also found in peppermint, also has a mild anesthetic effect on sensitive areas.

7. Clove

Clove contains high levels of an antioxidant called eugenol, which can relieve pain associated with toothache. A study has shown that eugenol is effective for patients who have extracted a tooth, with pain relief and the prevention of inflammation as a result.

As eugenol has a local anesthetic function, the ground cloves can be soaked in water to make a cream. Then apply the cream on the tooth or put the homemade cream in an empty tea bag and put it in your mouth.

You can also gently chew or suck on a clove and then put it close to the aching tooth to relieve the pain. This is not recommended for children, as they may swallow the prickly cloves which can be painful.

8. Garlic

Garlic is a common ingredient that many people have at home and it can also be used to relieve the pain of toothache. Allicin is a substance that is formed in garlic and has a strong antibacterial effect, which can help kill bacteria in the mouth that can lead to cavities.

Divide a clove of garlic and place it close to the tooth to relieve the pain. However, the taste of raw garlic may be too strong for some, so it is not the solution for everyone with toothache.
